Building Regulations Part G – Revised April 2010

The Building Regulations Part G was revised and came into force on 6th April 2010.

The main changes to the Regulations include the following items:

• A requirement to provide wholesome (Potable) water for the purposes of drinking or food preparation and washing
• The use of non wholesome (recycled or harvested rainwater) within sanitary conveniences is expressly permitted
• There is now a requirement to limit water use within new dwellings through the water efficiency calculator
• Enhanced safety features are required within hot water storage systems
• Thermostatic mixer taps or in-line blending valves are required to be fitted to baths
• Sanitary conveniences require wash hand basins within the toilet compartment and must have hot and cold water supply
• Adequate numbers of sanitary provisions are required within non domestic buildings.  This can be assessed using British Standard 6465, The Welfare at Work Regulations or any other suitable design guide that may be available
• Kitchens require a separate wash hand basin for hand washing only
