Fire Safety – New Planning Gateway One requirements from 1st August 2021

In April 2020, the Government’s response to its ‘Building a Safer Future’ consultation established three new Planning Gateways for certain buildings.

MHCLG has now published a draft Statutory Instrument proposing changes to the Planning legislation to introduce Planning Gateway One. The changes mean that a fire statement will need to be provided when applying for Planning Permission for any relevant building from 1st August 2021.

Importantly, the draft Statutory Instrument provides the first clear definition of a ‘relevant building’:
